Bob Ross was a self-taught American artist that hosted a PBS show called ‘The Joy Of Painting’. In 1995, at the age of 52, Bob Ross passed away after suffering from Lymphoma.
Bob Ross discovered his love of painting while serving in the US Army. After attending art classes whilst stationed in Anchorage, Alaska he followed an instructional tv show on oil painting. The primary technique taught was wet on wet. Bob mastered the technique and soon began producing his own landscape works.
After leaving the army, Bob Ross worked for an art supply store and then began presenting the instructional painting program on PBS. The Joy of Painting ran from 1983 to 1994. Bob’s relaxed presentation style and easy to follow instructions were a huge hit. On the back of his television success, Bob Ross also set up a company, Bob Ross Inc, specialising in the supply of art products and teaching his wet on wet technique.
